(l-r: Gemma, Peter O’Quill, Drake, Sister Douglas, Rocky)
Dance off, bro. You and me.
IN THE ‘VERSE
Peter O’Quill leads a ragtag bunch of adventurers through the ‘verse doing a little good, a little bad, and a little in between. If he can keep the berserker, Drake, in line, all he has to worry about is the deadly Gemma, the mysterious Sister Douglas, and the mercenary genius Rocky. Looks like they’ll all have to work together if they want to get rich and save the galaxy at the same time.
I know the movie didn’t include Heather Douglas, aka Moondragon, but she’s A) raised by monks, B) psychic, and C) a martial arts expert. In the ‘verse she’s a survivor of the same program as River Tam, but secreted out to a monastery.
I took a bit more artistic license with Gamora than I might have usually done, but I wanted a swordswoman who looked a little tougher. I’d like to try drawing Peter dancing a hillbilly jig for my own amusement.
I don’t think it is possible to anthropomorphize Groot.
The Motley Crew series started out with my desire to draw Elgyn’s mercenaries from the far underrated Alien: Resurrection. It progressed to drawing other Whedon-related science fiction characters in a style that lets them fit into the ‘Verse as established in Firefly/Serenity and has since expanded to any motley science fiction crew. My only remaining rule: the original property should not be ‘uniformed.’ (That makes them less than motley)
