IN THE ‘VERSE
Brothers Shep and Daio run a well-meaning gun-for-hire racket out on the rim, sailing in a boat called the Rescue. Shep’s the adventurous type while Daio prefers things a little more laid back. Gidge keeps the ship running while Monty…he just sort of threatens folks what have cheese and don’t share it. Somewhere along the way they picked up a ward, Cangying, whose energy never seems to cease.

While Disney’s Rescue Rangers don’t necessarily have a ship to their name, they do have the diverse cast that lends itself to a motley crew. And half of them were already wearing goggles, for goodness sakes! This was a fun bit of interpretation, especially with the colours. Daio/Dale was fairly easy to base right off of Wash and Gidge/Gadget shares a few similarities with Kaylee.
It’s been a while since I did a Motley Crew, but look for another Disney-inspired offering soon!
The Motley Crew series started out with my desire to draw Elgyn’s mercenaries from the far underrated Alien: Resurrection. It progressed to drawing other Whedon-related science fiction characters in a style that lets them fit into the ‘Verse as established in Firefly/Serenity and has since expanded to any motley science fiction crew. My only remaining rule: the original property should not be ‘uniformed.’ (That makes them less than motley)
